NEW  NIPR EXECUTIVE OYO STATE CHAPTER SETS AGENDA TO TAKE THE INSTITUTE TO GREATER HEIGHT

The swearing in ceremony and inauguration of the new Executives of the
Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Oyo State Chapter took place on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the syndicate Hall of the Premier Hotel, Ibadan.The ceremony which coincided with the monthly meeting of the Institute at the chapter attracted practitioners from within Ibadan and adjourning towns.
Members of the Institute were treated to sumptuous meals and assorted drinks with support and contributions from members and friends of NIPR.
The environment and setting provided avenue for social interaction and networking.
Special features of the day include swearing in of the new Executives, presentation of the new chairman, Mrs. Tola Ajayi and Agenda of the new Executives, recognition of intending members, cutting of the cake to celebrate October and November birthday celebrants and other social activities.
In her charge to the new Executive before their swearing in and inauguration, the one time chairman NIPR Oyo State and the only current female council member of the NIPR, Mrs. Yetunde Alagbe dwelt extensively on what public relations is about saying public relations is about building and sustaining mutual relationships between an organization and its public.
Mrs. Alagbe urged Public Relations Practitioners to project the profession and relate well with other professional colleagues in addition to networking in tackling modern day issues and problems associated with public relation in their respective organizations.
While highlighting the qualities of good public relation practitioners, Mrs. Alagbe stated that Public Relation Practitioners must be effective communication managers who knows how to plan ahead with well defined and clear cut programmes of actions and policies for implementation.
Mrs. Alagbe further stated the Public Relations Practitioners must know something about many things while encouraging mentorship by cultivating the habit of delegating or assigning works to subordinates instead of doing all the work, thereby creating an impression that such a person is working without actually doing nothing.
On how technology has changed Public Relations Practice, Mrs. Alagbe charged Public Relations Practitioners to be skillful in the use of social media or look at the possibility of employing the service of community Manager to monitor information within working environment and respond to issues by networking with new Generation Media for effective communication.
In her acceptance speech shortly after the inauguration and swearing in of the new Executives of NIPR, Oyo State chapter, by Barrister Deji Fateyinse, the new chairman of NIPR, Oyo State, Mrs. Tola Ajayi who is also the MD of Premier Hotel Mokola Hill, Ibadan thanked the members of the institute for the confidence reposed in her and other members of the Executive as demonstrated during election, assuring them that members of the Exco are ready to serve .
To actualize the dream of making a difference, in the running of the affairs of the institute at the state chapter, Mrs. Tola Ajayi set seven points Agenda as areas of focus.
Among the agenda include unifying all NIPR members in Oyo State under one NIPR family irrespective of what had happened before in the chapter adding that we must leave the past for the past and look forward to a bright future, full of potentials and with team spirit.
Mrs. Ajayi also emphasized on the need for networking among members in the interest of the association and overall socio-economic empowerment and development of members.
On the issue of membership drive, the new chairman promised to strengthen the membership base of the institute by looking for quality members in the various organizations who would be committed to upholding the ethics of the profession.
She further pledged to partner and collaborate with other professional bodies like NIM, NUJ, NIMN in the overall interest of the Institute.
Other areas of focus according to Mrs. Ajayi would be education and training which she said would form cornerstone of the new Executive for professional development of members adding that seminars would be organized while the issue of partnering with existing educational institutions like Polytechnic and University in the state would be considered.
She further promised to improve NIPR and Government relations, media relations while at the same time tap from the wealth of experience of the veterans for the development of the institute at the state chapter.
To actualize the dreams, the following committees were set up namely Building and secretariat, Networking, Publicity and Social media, Sponsorship and welfare, Finance, Revenue generation and Membership drive, Education and training have. She urged members to avail themselves of the opportunity to serve the institute for the growth and development of the chapter.
She finally solicited for the cooperation of the entire members of the institute so that with the same goal, purpose, vision and mission, positive result that would be beneficial to all and sundry would be achieved.
