Edo Leaders Vow To Resist Attempt To Remove Oyegun
BENIN CITY—THE Concerned Edo Leaders of Thought, CELT, yesterday
described as arrant nonsense, the call for the removal of the National
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie
Oyegun, asserting that it would resist any attempt to force the former
Permanent Secretary out of office.
While declaring their support
for Chief Oyegun, the group declared that those calling for his
resignation were doing so based on their selfish interest and not
because the APC national chairman had not performed.
In a
statement signed by the President of the group, Col Paul Ogbebor (rtd),
made available to Vanguard, described the allegation that Chief Oyegun
compromised in the Ondo governorship primaries of the APC as untrue “and
they cannot force the chairman out of office through amorphous
organizations who are peddling lies.
“Nigerians are aware that
no one can be blamed for the current problems besetting the APC and
indeed the nation’s economy. To do otherwise is an attempt to give a dog
a bad name in order to hang it.”
The statement added that those
agitating for the removal of Odigie-Oyegun over the Ondo primaries
should have explored the constitution of the party “and not through the
papers just to tarnish the image of a man who has worked so hard to keep
the party together.
The group further urged the leaders of the
party including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to join hands with the chairman to
return the party “to the path of constitutionalism as opposed to the
rule of one godfather and his collaborators by learning to channel their
grievances through appropriate channels for redress.”
